This Friday some of our friends are going to have "a firelight parade" where they walk in white clothes, carrying lanterns around the village. This reminds me of the Lucia Day-tradition back home, when in each school, town and church crowns one girl with candles and wreaths in honor of St. Lucia, the bringer of light into this darkest time of the year.
Taking place on December 13th, this Christian holiday is obviously a remnant of and earlier pagan tradition. I was thinking of dressing up as St. Lucia for Halloween, but perhaps Winter Solstice would suffice since I wont be here for the parade. I'm sure it will be wonderful.
